[Tfug] OK, XFCE on an older rig has lost it's mind...

Try Enlightenment DR17.  Looks like XFCE, but it's a LOT faster and
has better eye-candy IMHO (heck, it's pretty responsive on my PDA).
I'm not sure if it's in Gutsy's repos yet, but there are plenty of
mirrors online.
