I know of a good OS you can try.
It's called "The box you spec'ed is enormous, retarded overkill". I've
installed it on a few machines using the "Neither your OS not your
hardware will be your bottleneck, noob." installer, using the "Your
bottleneck will be your storage path's bandwidth, you tool." option
turned on at install time.
I was impressed!
