[Tfug] No Sound on SuSE Linux for SB Live

I ran xmms from a command line and it runs and the
display acts as if it is playing sound but no sound
and no errors.
I can't help but think that somewhere there is a magic
place to turn on the volume. The system configurator
YaST2 has all sorts of settings, all of which I have
turned on but still no sound. I run something called
KMix and its settings seem OK, although some are a
mystery to me.
Thanks for the help.
