The SB Live! (even VE) card works very well under Linux. It is usally
auto-detected correctly, and probably is set up right.

When you run an audio application from the command line (inside of an
xterm or some other terminal) what (if any) error messages do you get?

I'm not sure what audio applications are included with SuSE or what you
have installed, but try 'xmms' at the command line and see what errors you
might get.

Also, what window/desktop manager are you using? If it is something like
KDE or Gnome, then there are this things called sound servers which
/might/ be locking things up (tho, with a SB Live!, that shouldn't be an
issue since it supports multiple channels).
