I agree with you.  My question is why EllisLabs is separating itself from CI entirely.  What is it they know that I do not?

I'm sure there will be some forks.  

The only thing missing from CI is HMVC.  It is just MVC now.  THere are ways to make it HMVC, however I would like to have HMVC be native to CI.  Other than that I really like CI.

If it's as widely embraced as suggested, why not create a foundation
(legal entity) to adopt its support?  Seems like approaching some
of the bigger names on that list would be a great place to start...

[I leave it for you to chase down the myriad of reasons why a
legal entity often "makes sense" for this sort of thing]
