[Tfug] More on LXDE - "Masonux"...

This guy name of Mason has remastered a standard Ubuntu install with
the LXDE desktop I've been favorably impressed by. So far it's just
Jaunty-based but I'm still DLing it to try it in a VM and see how he's
tweaked LXDE.

The "Lubuntu" project is still just talk, nothing downloadable yet.
My own attempts to splice LXDE into Karmic worked OK but left menus
that to me look "messy". I want to see if his effort looks any
cleaner.

The "Masonux" .ISO is around 350megs, and is claimed to be a very tiny
fork off of Ubuntu. He only tweaked the Network Manager config file a
hair to get it working better in LXDE.

I'm also impressed by his "notes to self" documenting what he did and
a decent guide to how to "roll your own":

I can easily see putting together an Ubuntu install in a VM, stripping
out a bit of fluff somewhere, splicing in flash/MP3/DVD/etc. support,
maybe VLC if it'll fit and seeing if the result can't cram onto a
700meg CD.

Couldn't distribute it online that way but among friends, whatever, it
would save some install time.

Interesting.

Jim
