Proprietary formats are much more dangerous than proprietary software.
  Lock in only matters when you it eliminates any alternatives you may
have, or keeps your data from you.

Nobody talks about lock-in with text editors (other than the eternal
vi vs emacs muscle memory debate) - it's a non-issue.
