I post to TFUG to bask in the panegyric.

For what it worth, I spent ~$450 on the T41. It was cheap because the guy had
loaded linux on it, and then couldn't figure out how to remove it. It
came with
an XP COA, and was still in warrenty, so I talked IBM into sending me some
disks, and managed to remove linux (if I remember that took me about
three days
of learning to figure out how to do - at the time I was not on an LUG list).
After installing XP, I wanted to do a dual boot, but couldn't figure out how,
so ultimately the Linux CD found its way into the dust bin.

I did use the warranty, too. I had to replace the DVD drive. Additionally, the
kind folks at IBM (Lenovo) helped me immensely several times in getting the
machine to work right. Yes, it was at times a pain the backside, but at
least I
had somewhere to go if it ceased to work completely. This was one of
the factors
which made buying another IBM an easier choice (for me). By the time the
incidental wardrobe malfunction occurred, the machine was out of warranty.

However, you are right. I coulda spent twice as much on my next machine, and
just had it work perfectly all the time. (Like what linux could do.)
