You have that anyway -- have you ever seen a master cool filter after a few
years, you can stand on one.
Just because you have a sump with water doesn't mean that the evaporated
water isn't depositing stuff.

The thing could rattle to shake stuff out.  The filter doesn't need to
absorb water, it just needs to present a surface of  water to the airflow in
a way that doesn't carry large droplets into the rest of the system.  Some
large systems just spray water directly into the air and just have a filter
at the discharge.

I think a small PIC with a few A-Ds or just simple IO could do it.  Linux
may be overkill, but I imagiine you could put Linux in a toothbrush if you
wanted to.
