[Tfug] broadband opts

I had emailed the list when I first moved to Tucson, trying to get
options. I was originally going to go with Speakeasy, but their service
wasn't all it was advertised. After attempting to get service without a
phoneline (which was problematic because you check availability via a
phone #) I was told that the high-end connection wasn't available and
the fastest I could get was 3mbps.

Well, the contract fell through on that place, and I got a place on the
NE side instead. Speakeasy isn't available, and Qwest's highest speed is
too low to be competitive. I've got the Cox premier service (9mbps) and
its fast. I originally wanted to use outbound on port 25(for development
and testing stuff, not running a mail server) but I just ssh into a box
and debug stuff over there. I also run a web server on port 81, and it
works well. As long as I have no need to ever call Cox I think I'll be
fine.

I've got a 12-month contract, but you can bet that as soon as Qwest gets
up to 7mbps I'll be switching over.
