Unfortunately... I have yet to find any sort of local source for laptop
parts.. Very few people (even the true computer shops) carry anything beyond
harddrives and maybe a mobile CPU, if any laptop components at all... Mostly
because, while the drive/CPU/etc are standard, the stuff they come wrapped in
(the plastics, bit of board) are unique to one laptop or another... Well
quite true, many laptops use nearly the same motherboards, even amoung
different brand names, the laptops are actually all made a couple Taiwanese
companies.. but the outer plastic are different between models, so it can be
difficult to distingush between.
There are a couple different internet sites I will check (like
laptopparts.com), but selection, availability, and price can very
significantly. Ebay, of course, is the one stop for all... It appears there
are atleast 2 different inverters used in the 8100, depending on which screen
you have... Starting from somewhere around $5, up to $50, depending on the
seller. You'll probably want to see about checking the cables into/out-of the
inverter first, there may be a loose connection.

My typical fee is a beer at some point in the future... but that varies
depending on the youth of the client...
