[Tfug] The StarNet problem

I have a dialup account at dakotacom.net. Especially during high-traffic
periods I get the StarNet problem:

 >>> Unsuccessful:

ATZ
OK
ATM1L1
OK
ATDT202 2305
CONNECT 45333/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS

Welcome to StarNet.

username:

 >>>Successful:

ATZ
OK
ATM1L1
OK
ATDT202 2305
CONNECT 45333/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS

Welcome to 3Com Total Control HiPer ARC (TM)
Networks That Go The Distance (TM)

login:
passwd

These are my dialup monitoring logs from Dakotacom. When it says "Welcome
to Starnet" it hangs at "username:" and my software eventually gives up
and redials 202 2305 If, eventually, a dialin trial produces the latter,
"Welcome to 3Com Total Control HiPer ARC (TM)", the system logs me in and I
have as successful session.

I've called tech-support, with the description of the problem that you
see here, (sent to them e-mail on two occasions). Thus far to no avail.

I think that other dial-in accounts just muddle thru, because,
eventually,
the log-in procedure goes down the right path, but I monitor things,
(because I
CAN, I use Linux). So why waste a resources? Why waste computer time?

                                                                  Cheers,
                                                                  Erich
