The basic scripts on this page should work for your needs,

As far as where to put them, to just run them, yourself, manualy, anywhere
will work (ie /root will be find).  IIRC you are running Debian on that
system, and you would want to put the scripts in /etc/init.d and make a
symbolic link in /etc/rc2.d to the script in /etc/init.d
