Okay.

Crazy, untested idea #2:

Assuming foonly and hart are actual declared members of a group called 
lab, "force group = %G" might work.

I found a sample smb.conf online where "force group = groupname" was 
commented out and replaced with the suggested declaration. Another 
resource defines %G as "Primary group of %U" where %U is the "Username 
the client requested at session setup".
