[Tfug] Web server names

Hi,

A trivial? question -- for the right person!  :>

I often see web sites served with a group of hosts (ignoring
the ad services, etc.).  Usually names like "<foo>static" and
"<foo>cdn", etc.

I figure the "static" host probably pushes out invariant
stuff -- things that can be "blindly"/"mindlessly" served
(unscripted, etc.).

No idea what "cdn" is intended to signify/abbreviate but it
turns up in lots of names.

Anyone care to shed some light on this?
