[Tfug] e2fsck question

I received a 250GB USB drive containing data.  When I mounted it, the
system warned that it had found errors and recommended running e2fsck.  I
did not run it with the -i option, and I now wish I had.  It's taking
forever to run and is encountering flurries of short-read errors which I
then need to manually clear.   If I were to kill e2fcsk and start it over
with the -i option is this going to mung the disk?
