[Tfug] Linux SIG mtg, 4th Sunday

Hi. I run the Copper LUG. We were formerly the MPGLUG for Maricopa Pinal
but we did have users come down from Tucson for our events. People seem to
like our sponsored Hackfest and seriously demand our bi monthly raspberry
pi meetup. Attendance can be lower but we are giving users...even old hats,
options. Some complained about install fests and having to work with
'customers' and being told what to do by the az loco people. They wanted to
get together and tinker. That's what we do.

We bring new toys every week and tinker... :)

The SLUG in the area focuses on support because their members are newer and
somewhat less tech. However this group does encourage interaction.

PLUG Meetings are led in a lecture style like you would see in a high
school or community college.

Colorado does lecture too, at intel. One month there were 0 attendees. The
next month when I attended and spoke on free culture, more than a dozen
people showed up.

If you do just lecture...you risk only people interested in the topic.

I recently had supper in Seattle with the Moens. As you may know, Rick
wrote the LUG howto. We often discuss the state of LUGs. Perhaps it is time
to open more discussion about the state of LUGs other than bad Ubuntu
behavior and lax leadership by benevolent dictators...

By the way, young kids and older kids do love hands on tinkering... :)
