Very strange. My Droid 3, before putting apps on like Google Voice
and imo, was never close to having 137M free memory. My parents have
a much less powerful Android device and having looked it at, I know
that it typically has approximately the amount of free RAM your Aria
has.
I wonder what makes my Droid 3 so wonderfully special in this regard?
Where is all this RAM going?
Having used it a bit more now, I still have no plans to go back to the
stock ROM, but with CM 10.1 the Droid 3 is definitely much slower at
some tasks. GMail takes forever to start now, my launcher app needs
to reload nearly every time I return to it from another app, and, as
mentioned before, I can see my IM app, imo, restarting far more often
that it ever used to.
On the bright side, despite all of this new/extra low memory pressure,
it has yet to spontaneously reboot on me. That is a marked
improvement over its old behavior.
I don't know if you know the answer one way or the other, but is there
any *RAM* penalty/cost associated with having many apps installed?
Obviously, each new app requires more storage space, but storage space
is one thing the Droid 3 has in spades. I don't *believe* I have an
enormous number of apps installed, but if it would actually benefit
performance I could easily pare it down.
These things can be so opaque sometimes...
