My current thinking is just to build a stripped down FreeBSD
system without all these fancy bells and whistles.  E.g., I
don't need iSCSI support, a web interface, (soft-)RAID, etc.
All those things eat up resources (as well as contribute to
decreased reliability) when all I really need is just to
push/pull bytes to/from individual files.  Why make more
of a maintenance headache than I really need?  <frown>
