What precisely am I supposed to do with a 300GB .iso file?  Burn it to
20 dvds?  Ain't there anything to do an in-place clone?  That
functionality seems to be utterly missing from Linux, from what I can
find on the web.

Alot of people suggest dd, but I'm old enough to know that's only
likely to work on identical disks, and no one seems to make that
critical caveat known in their blog posts - I wonder how many noobs
have tried it and baked a disk?
