[Tfug] cinelerra trouble

Hi all 
This is my first time posting to the grope.
Here is my dilemma . I was using cinelerra to do a bit of video editing in UBUNTU 10.04 did an recommended upgrade then the software would not run
Tried to run it from the desktop as usual ad got nothing but desktop.
tired of that so i installed Debian stable. installed cinelerra and ran it from the desktop. The first thing that happened was cinelerra told me that the value in shmmax was to low and it told me to enter  
{  echo "0x7fffffff">/proc/sys/kernal/shmmax }
 It opened normally but then went to settings menu and it went away. tried running it from the command line and it did the same thing.
However it returned the following to the terminal.

I'm sorry but i have no idea what any of this means
except the last line  "Aborted"
