[Tfug] Punched cards and paper tape.

OH, I thought some of these old time UNIX folks might pre-date the Commodore
and go to those old home made PCs that had the keyboard and processor
screwed down to a piece of wood. Now I would like to see a picture of one of
those. I guess I could find one on the Internet but I never wanted to see
one bad enough to look.
I started working at the UofA in 1989, in production services until I
retired last year. I didn't want to retire but the job just wasn't as good
as it was before the reorg and the management became so obnoxious that I
couldn't take it. In fact most of the senior staff in operations, production
control and programming that could retire did retire like rats leaving a
sinking ship.
I went to a vocational school way back when I was a young man with hair, and
even learned how to read Hollerith code. And I actually had to read a blank
punched card once on a job. Wow, that made it worth while.
OK, who among this list learned how to wire/program a IBM 407 accounting
machine? Or a 557 card reproducer (I think it was a 557, may be 559 too many
years ago). That was a lot of fun!! :-)

Long after that, I did some statistics at the UA using punch-cards, and I
think
that was in '78 or '79.

Finally parted with mine a few years ago. [sigh].
