Can you telnet to port 25 on those severs?  Or is that traffic being
blocked?

Put another way, are the mail servers deciding not to accept your message
after you connect, or is your ISP blocking your attempt to connect?

Another idea: if you are able to connect via telnet, try sending an email
manually through the telnet session and see if it gives you any errors...
