I have had some experience using a digital camera for taking pics of book
pages. It is not the most fun thing to do, but it is certainly doable, and
more so than with hand scanners.
Deal is, it requires careful consideration of the camera to be purchased. Do
the research. Some do the job much better than others. Once you pick one,
then it is up to you to learn how to properly use your camera's settings.
Most cameras will not do the job you are after with normal automatic mode.
You will need to learn how to fuss with your manual settings, so be prepared
to read the manual, as well as possibly some photo books from your library.
Aack! :)
That also means that you might want to read reviews on different suitable
cameras, because some are much easier to dig through the menus than others.
So that might help your choice. One that can take the pics you want, but is
a pain every time you need to actually do so, is not desirable.
Purchase a small tripod.
Look for optical image stabilization as a camera feature.
Hope that helps.
Matthew
