This is the opposite direction of what you are asking but I ran into a
problem with VBox not properly recognizing that my processor had
virtualization after I had set up a virtual machine with support for
virtualization. I don't remember the details about what caused it but
one day I booted up my XP virtual machine and it told me that AMD-V was
not supported on my processor. This is after many months of using the
same processor with virtualization. The boot failed, I had to change
the 'use hardware virtualization' option in VBox and start the virtual
machine up again. Honestly for simple workload I couldn't tell a
difference. Eventually I got virtualization working again (I think I
had to update or reinstall VBox), changed the setting back and it just
worked. I have also moved virtual machines from one physical machine to
another. You should be safe to install the virtual machine, play with
it, and when you get the new processor, just changed your virtual
machine settings.
Host was Ubuntu 8.04LTS with an Athlon X2 (Brisbane).

To be or not to be, that is the question
2b || !2b
(0b10)*(0b1100010) || !(0b10)*(0b1100010)
0b11000100 || !0b11000100
0b11000100 || 0b00111011
0b11111111
255, that is the answer.
