Liz,

I tried several Distros but settled on Debian based.  I installed on a few
different architectures.  Broken packages and dependency problems don't
seem to exist or are at least very rare on the distros I tried.

I don't think it is something to worry about unless you are looking for
things to worry about.  It's interesting to look at dependencies but when
the package manager says, "install these packages to solve dependencies"
just click "yes" and move on.
