Absolutely. But don't forget how laughably easy that is to do.
If you're on a 32bit distro, all you have to do is backup your home
dir, reload with 64, reload your home dir and maybe any apps you also
loaded. It's easy in most distros to back up the "what packages I've
added" list, and then just reinstall from repos.
ONLY if you've got a lot of custom compiled stuff does it get at all messy.
