Thanks Jim.
This is interesting. I have two sets of fedora redhat, but I installed v
6 on a dell, and when I'm trying to install to the hp compaq, it says it's
v4. Perhaps I should try the other set of install disks anyway. :-)
I'll find out what type of graphics card I'm using.
The disk is a toshiba mk80346xs and I found some kind of toshiba driver
tool that I downloaded. The other two links were blogs in Russian.
Respectfully,

Ah. OK, good. It was worth checking :).
Which distro are you going to use? Also, it would be very useful to
know which graphics card is in there now, not just brand but model
details as shown in the Windows "device manager". In XP that's under
control panel, system, hardware tab, device manager. Expand the entry
for video/graphics card and write down what it says. There can be
interesting issues with some where one distro (or version of a distro)
can be predicted to work better than others.
It's almost certain you'll be able to make anything work. Worst case
is probably the Intel GMA500, a real freakshow...even that mostly
works :).
Jim
