Actually, I have moved away from Gentoo towards the similar-goodness of Arch Linux. Gentoo's package management QA seems to be on the decline. Several times over the past year, I ended up with broken packages essential to a good web server. And these were not bleeding edge "unstable" either. Also, Jacob, one of the now-retired bug wranglers was a total arse to bug reporters who were users and not oh-so deep tinkerers.
