[Tfug] lockup

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 on a P4 80gb, 1gb mem machine. Recently while navigating to the NASA site it locked up after loading the page. I suspect the native video stream on the page. I had to reboot and got the following messages while booting. 

loading essential drivers ok 
running/scripts/init.premount ok 
mounting root file system 
running/scripts/local/top ok 
waiting for root file system ok 
running/scripts/local/premount ok 
running/scripts/local/bottom ok 
running/scripts/init-bottom 
reading files needed to boot ok 
preparing redistr 

at this point it freezes up. 

need ideas
