*What* is 5Mb/s -- per node, the Comcast connection, up vs. down, 
etc.? 

tests of download speed from speakeasy or comcasts' speed checker give me these results. uploads are aroind 1.5mb 

Are you using a HUB or a SWITCH? I am hardwired into a router.

What applications are getting this bandwidth? Have you tried 
just transfering files between YOUR two machines to see what 
sort of bandwidth you *might* get?
