[Tfug] downgrading Xorg

As with any software package that is as complicated as
xorg-server, new versions
don't necessarily satisfy all tastes all at once.

Using HAL & evdev is a good idea, and that works. However
xorg-server-1.5.3-r6 didn't
satisfy me in other quarters. The nvidia driver refused to integrate
when I built it, and I had no
control over the screen resolution. I got GLX to work when I switched to
the xorg-x11
library set for OpenGL. However that places the graphics burden on the
CPU while
the nvidia graphics chip is used only to a tiny fraction of its capability.

So now I've downgraded to what I had in the first place:
xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r6. The
video performance is magnificent. Fine detail, 24-bit color depth,
animation with
out using an ounce of CPU resources.

There is some confusion over xorg-server versions depending on the
distro.
The command "xdpyinfo" on my machine says X.Org version: 1.3.0. So here's my
question: Do other distros have a package called xorg-sever.deb/rpm?
When you
type your xdpyinfo does the X.Org version match (partly) the package
version?

                                                                 Cheers,
                                                                 Erich
