ewww, Network Mangler.  Just say "no" to that POS. j/k ;-)  Seriously,
though -- you could manually set up the connection, at least as an
experiment ( using wpa_supplicant  + wireless-tools ).  I use this
approach successfully with my Eee PC 901 , which is running Eeeubuntu
(Hardy).
