[Tfug] ooops

I checked the syntax of the command and it appears to be correct, no quotes were used. I just tried the installer again and it is telling me to check to see if synaptic, apt or update manager is running. I see no apparent operation of these programs going on. They are being seen as running by the system. I checked in the system monitor to see if they showed up in the process section, nothing. How do I kill them if they are indeed there?

The cursor you see is the continuation cursor that the shell provides so that
you can type multiline statements (such as a for loop). Most often, though,
people get it because they accidentally typed some mismatched quotes in their
command.

In this case, the command you should be running contains no quotes. Did you
accidentally include one, perhaps while doing a copy-paste with the mouse?

Also, make sure neither synaptic nor another packaging tool is running when
you invoke the dpkg command.
