Before Firefox, Opera was the great alternative to IE, particularly with
it's IE emulator built in. However, once Firefox came out, opera was not
really the alternative any more. Opera suffered (and probably still does)
then from the fact that it was also closed source, just as IE was; of which
I believe Netscape was also at the same time. Firefox has become so popular
and used because it is open sourced and not IE. Two very redeeming
qualities. :)
