[Tfug] Netbooks and Linux - suggestions?

Yes, the GMA500 is a steaming turd from hell.  Avoid at all costs.
(Weirdly, Dell has shipped some systems with that crap with Ubuntu
pre-installed...which is turning into a nightmare.)

Question: are you looking for a netbook, or a very low-cost laptop?  A
friend of mine just bought an Acer on sale at Best Buy for $300 out
the door - dual core AMD CPU, 2gigs RAM, 160gig HD, the new 15.6"
format slightly cheesy screen, AMD x1200 video which works pretty damn
good in Karmic (new open-source AMD drivers) and the like.  It's a
pretty damn good setup for the money.
