[Tfug] trouble playing flash video in firefox

hello
can any one help me  fix firefox.
It was working fine until ubuntu  offered a security update to the system. 
after installing the update firefox no longer plays youtube videos or google news videos properly. when i click a news vid a black window appears and the audio plays, sometimes that even stops playing. but no video plays at all.

I have re installed the flash player to no avail. I have even uninstalled the flash player then restarted the computer then reinstalled Firefox and the flash player. i even downloaded firefox 3.5.2
but still no go. i am new to Linux and think possibly a configuration file is wrong, but i don't know where to look for it.or what to look for if i new where to look.
i am currently running UBUNTU  9.04
