I talked with Comcast and it was stated that more than one box connected will split or otherwise slow down the connection, even with a second ip address. I suppose it boils down to bandwidth...

Yeah, with the newest cable modems you have to yank the battery out of
the bottom and REALLY power cycle the damnthing, otherwise it won't
work with anything else but what it was connected to before.
Basic rule with cable modems: you have to power cycle 'em before
switching devices, and it doesn't matter at all what the devices
are...Windows, Mac, Linux, different router, different Ethernet card,
whatever.
