Sorry, my question is intended at a "lower level" than that.
I.e., imagine trying to view arbitrary contents of a "desktop"
over some long/slow/"inductive" transmission medium.  E.g.,
to paraphrase Jim's earlier comment:  imagine playing a Nintendo
video game remotely over a dialup link  :-/
