FWIW current version of OOo is 3.0.something:

    MS Office 2007 OOXML file format (docx, xslx, pptx, ppsx) 
      OpenOffice.org Community Forum
    OOo 3.#: now supports the import of .docx, .xlsx and .pptx.

If that won't work for you , you might have to install the free MS Office 
viewers in WINE, load the fl*pping .DOCX files, then copy and paste them into 
OOo (in WINE).  Or set up a PDF-printer and print from the MS Viewer to a PDF.
