Yes, I think the problem is impurities in the Li.
(Li is rather reactive)

But, I'm curious if there are any "signs" that can
alert you that this sort of thing is "coming" before you
find yourself looking for a new laptop...

Or, things to *avoid* that would otherwise precipitate
such an event.
