My philosophy is that if you want those organizations to change, you
have to do something about it, rather than hope they go away. Taking
a job with them is probably one of the more significant things you
can do: just be super-nice and super-professional, and frown at the
slightest hint of "unapproved" behavior. This is of far greater
benefit to the community than is the detriment of aiding the
organization. It also has a deeper effect within the organization
than writing a letter of complaint to someone's superior.
And then for your own conscience? Well, consider that these (huge)
organizations buy in huge quantities from other huge equipment
manufacturers, such as Cisco, Sun, and the like. They aid these
organizations in a far greater way than one person's employment. Are
you also going to refuse employment with those companies, on the
grounds that they're suppliers to a particular organization? That
would be the logical follow-through.
