[Tfug] An interesting network puzzle involving M.C. Hammer.

I'm not sure you'll get an immediate connection if you do this (I haven't tried this scenario yet), but it does cut the time down dramatically.

On the etherchannel:

enable portfast
pagp turned off
disable trunking
