Wait a sec, you mean you don't manually telnet to port 80 to use the www? You use a browser? I'm guessing you don't telnet to port 25 to send mail either.

PS- I'm also of the belief that if apt-get (or yum) does what you need, why the heck would you need a GUI? Makes no sense to me. It's far quicker to apt-get install foo than manually find it in a list somewhere.
