Hi,
Thanks to those folks who replied with suggestions.
I'll start researching them this week.
To those folks who expressed an interest in having
similar toys for themselves, you might want to try
to locate a local "route operator" or other distributor
(check the yellow pages under "Amusement Devices"
for disty's... route operators are usually harder to
find :< )
Often, you can pick up an older machine for very little
money. The caveat is they will usually need some sort
of servicing :< Old electromechanical machines (pin tables,
of course) are probably easier to get working in terms
of the technology involved -- but, often take a lot more
*effort* to restore (burnishing and resetting contacts, etc.)
OTOH, you can gamble on a "solid state" machine (though
you'll still have to deal with *some* adjusting of contacts
*and* do so much more carefully -- the lower voltage switching
is less tolerant of abuses!) and hope that there's nothing
wrong with the electronics (schematics for many machines are
available on-line -- if you look hard enough. N.B. many
machines share common hardware designs).
In any case, examine the cosmetic aspects of the machine
carefully as these parts are most difficult to restore. :<
I'd be willing to give pointers (off-list) if you find
yourself in a bind...
Thanks!
