I just picked up a HT820 headphone set ($50 @ amazon ), and after a
bit of fiddling, I have them working with my T61 (which is running
Ubuntu Hardy).  They will work in SCO mode, which is appropriate for
Skype (bidirectional).  But, of course, the real treat is A2DP mode,
which allows me to listen to stereo quality audio anywhere in my (not
so big) apartment.  Switching between the two modes is not
transparent, however, and requires using different software, and
re-pairing the device each time. However, I am quite pleased, now that
it is all working.

For ALSA-aware software, switching between headphones and speakers is
painless.  For certain other software, you can use gstreamer to
redirect audio to/from the headphones.

On the down side, performance suffers quite noticeably because of my
bluetooth mouse; possibly it is a bandwidth issue, because the audio
will become choppy, and garbled whenever I move the rodent on my
desk. Fortunately, I don't generally need to use the mouse when I'm
using the headphones.  Also, another bummer about this particular
model (HT820) is that they fit a bit more snugly than I like.  Maybe I
need a smaller head. ;-)
