[Tfug] permissions problem

I was installing Vitualbox and in my attempt to add my user acct. to the
vboxusers group I learned something important.  When I used the CL to
add the vboxusers to my group I lost my admin/sudo privileges. I read
somewhere that it's a bug and you should always use the GUI when make
any group/user changes. Anyway, I got it repaired by booting into the
recovery kernel and then adding my user via visudo, now everything seems
normal, but I find that my sound applet gives me an error (see
screenshot).  Why is this occurring, how do I correct it? And are there
other issues I've created with permissions and other files that I may
not be aware of yet?
