Hi TFUG,
I have had very good luck with HP LaserJet printers with built-in
postscript. I have recently changed from a 5mp (6 pages/min) to a 4050n (17
pages/min). The built-in network interface is a plus. It was $40 at World
Care with a full toner cartridge. World Care is in an old school east of
Palo Verde about .5 miles south of 22ed street. When I left, they had a
4050 - no "n" on the printer - but with a built in JetDirect card also for
$40. (The last 5mp I bought was at the TV swap meet for $25. It had
printed less than 600 pages!)
If money is not an issue, look at HP's 4250. It is between $850 and $2500,
depending on the options. I use one at work. 45 pages /min. It is rated
at 250,000 pages/month. I have yet to see it jam, even with the duplexer.
In addition to postscript, it will also print .pdf files directly if it has
enough memory. Both the 4050 and the 4250 have a 500 sheet paper tray.
In addition to printing from Linux, postscript printers work well with other
UNIX systems, Apple systems, and some other system -- I just can't seem to
remember its name right now.
