[Tfug] Creationist Museum

Nowhere in that post did I explicitly call anyone a dummy. I just found it
amusing, because I had never heard of nor seen them before and it never
occurred to me that any existed. To me, its "predictable" location in
Kentucky just means that if one were to exist, it would make sense that it
would exist in an area of the US where Creationism is particularly strong.
As far as its depiction of humans and dinosaurs (and dragons, as well)
coexisting goes, I find it amusing because it is non-traditional (not
necessarily stupid or backward; it's just that I didn't expect it to happen,
and thus I'm amused).

To point out that the Creationist camp has failed to add ID (or similar) to
the public school scientific curriculum is to point out an obvious fact.
Because the number of Creationists in Kentucky is statistically higher than
average, it makes sense that more parents in Kentucky would want schools to
present the ID hypothesis alongside evolution. If you read the museum
description, you'll find its parking lot has been specifically designed to
facilitate school-bus loading and unloading. Because the current court
ruling is that the presentation of ID in the classroom is a violation of the
First Amendment, this feature leads me to believe that one of the purposes
of this museum is to make it easier for schools to present the ID hypothesis
to students without explicitly making it part of the curriculum. It makes
sense that field trips to this museum would be encouraged by parents to
circumvent the ruling and allow their children to learn of ID in
school-related activities. Hence the explanation of my previous statement
that "It seems that the political battle to inject Intelligent Design into
public schools has been thwarted enough that someone put up $27 million to
build a Creationist-oriented history museum..."

Also, if you look at the pictures of the museum, the interior DOES look
cool.

Seriously, now, why is everyone jumping the gun here? If I were to post a
link to a museum depicting the history of ear wax sculptures, would everyone
be as offended? I would be just as amused by an ear wax museum as a
Creationist history museum, and for the same reasons--it's unexpected, and
it never would have occurred to me. I tend to laugh at things that are
unexpected and/or do not occur to me, regardless of what they are. I even
chuckled at Sony's new flexible LCD screen prototype for those reasons!
Who'd have thought that computer screens might one day be like paper
sheets? Amusing, no?

Regards,
Jude Nelson
