Just as a quick follow-up and for posterity, I spent some of Sunday
trying to track down this lockup and I think that I've got it licked.
It appears that there's a bug whereby if X is using the kernel's
framebuffer device, X can lock on suspend/resume (also on switching
from X to a VT). No idea where the bug is, though. I've since
configure xorg.conf to not use the kernel's framebuffer and haven't
experienced any further lockups.
